Cyril awoke to find his father in his room looking at him. "What's going on?" asked Cyril as he sat up from his bed. "The local guards from Westhaven are here but they can't get in! They are here to investigate last nights attacks" exclaimed his father.
Cyril nodded as he waved his hand, and outside the force field of wind immediately dispersed. Cyril walked out and greeted the Captain of the guard. There was a guard being bandaged up, resting under a nearby tree. Cyril guessed that the guard tried to get into his forcefield and was flung into the tree.
"Greetings Captain, how can I be of service? We have not gone to report this yet. How did you get here so quickly?" asked Cyril as he waved over pointing at the pile of corpses outside his house that the other guards were inspecting.
The Captain cleared his throat and answered "We had several large fires at the Silkweaver factory and shops in town. Just as we put them out, a flying body splattered on the town walls just next to the gate.
After we managed to put out the fires, we rushed to the Silkweaver estates passing by several strange occurances. I wonder, after seeing your wall of wind, do you have anything to do with them?"
"Perhaps. You mentioned strange occurances? Like what?" asked Cyril.
"Besides your impenetrable house, there was the flying man that splattered on our town walls, a group of beheaded mercenaries on the way here. Then there is the pile of bodies in front of your house and the pile of headless bodies at the Silkweaver estate." answered the Captain of the Guard.
Cyril smiled and nodded. "Am I in trouble?" asked Cyril. "No, but there is still many questions that need answering" replied the Captain.
"They are from the Bloodwolf Mercenary group, and they were paid to kill the Silkweavers and destroy all their belongings. There is a mercenary tied up at the Silkweaver house for questioning." answered Cyril.
The Captain nodded and gave commands to arrest the mercenary. "My name is Captain Williard of the Westhaven Town Guard. If you need me, just ask for me by name" said the Captain as he introduced himself.
"Cyril Soulsong, pleased to meet you" answered Cyril.
"What do you know about the Bloodwolf Mercenary Group?" asked Cyril. "This is the first time I've heard the name. Maybe they are a foreign group" answered Captain Williard.
Cyril frowned and gave a shrug. "If you will excuse me, I will go check on my friend" said Cyril as he excused himself as he saw Kyra at the door of his house.
"My wants want to see you" cried Kyra as she gave Cyril a great big hug. Cyril squeezed her back and nodded. "Is everything alright?" he asked. She nodded and simply took his hand and pulled him into the house
He approached Kyra's mother seated in his house and she looked up and smiled at him. Kyra's mother, Victoria Merchantile called him over to her.
Kyra's mother passed a ring over to Cyril. "This is the Merchantile family ring. Please take it as a reward for saving all our lives. Its a interspatial ring, and you can keep items in it. It also has my family emblem on it, allowing you access to any Merchantile shops around the continent.
The Merchantile family is a famous trading company with a shop in every major town in Eurathia. They traded in magical weapons, armors and weapons. They also held auctions for precious items that are extremely rare. With this ring, he is able to access such a resource. Of course, he would still need to be rich enough or have items rare enough to trade there. Still, it gets his foot in the door if he ever needs anything rare or magical.
A interspatial ring is a rare item in Eurathia. No one knows where they came from, only that they have existed and passed on down the royal families since time immemorial. No one today knows how to make one, which is why they are so rare. Sometimes a extremely rich family may get their hands on one, but thats practically unheard of.
On touching the ring, his mind also opened up to the space-time law that is embedded in the ring. "This is like a bag of holding from Asgard, but smaller in a ring rather than a bag.... ah... now I understand!" thought Cyril. The space-time law suddenly became clear to him, and he became excited. "I must explore this law more".
He knew that such rings were only owned by the very rich, or by royalty. He noted that Kyra was also wearing a duplicate of the ring on her finger. "This Victoria Merchantile must be someone very high up in the family. She actually had two of such rings? I'm not sure even Kings have more than one interspacial ring." thought Cyril to himself.
"The rings we passed on to the both of you are as thanks for saving our lives and as congratulations for entering StarRock. My Kyra is extremely fond of you, and we hope you continue to take care of her in the Academy" Kyra's mother explained as Kyra's face turned red.
Cyril thanked them, and as they had alot of matters to take care of, he excused himself. Kyra left with Victoria with the city guard as escorts.
Later that day, he visited Kyra, and they talked about what happened the night before, and discussed about their preparations for their move to StarRock.
This would be a new phase in life for the both of them. They've never gone beyond the boundaries of Westhaven.
